ONSET presents: OPTIV of C4C

Posted by . Filed under: Drum & Bass, Mixes, Shows

Releasing music for the best part of 13 years, Optiv, otherwise known as Edward Holmes has been an integral member of possibly one the most influential Drum & Bass collectives the scene has ever witnessed – Cause4Concern. When Optiv’s music career began the term MP3 was a mere twinkle in the eye of future music format and at this time acetate was the preferred method for documenting. It’s clear to see that with his music being pressed to vinyl on over 20 different labels he has earned his colours and stripes as a master of his trade. 2002 saw the beginning of Optiv’s own imprint, Red Light Records, where he released the labels debut 12″ ‘Strangeways’ b/w ‘Flatworm’ and since then the label has seen lots of solo work plus collaborations with Axiom, Chris.su and Rymetyme on tracks that optimise the Red Light sound, techy, rolling and always at a super high production level. Now living in Switzerland, Optiv continues to deliver outstanding music through Red Light and with the re-ignition of Cause4Concern and further projects in the pipeline, 2011 is set to be an exciting year!

Optiv makes his first Seattle appearance at ONSET this Saturday alongside Canada’s PSIDREAM.

Based in Brighton, UK, Prolix is part of the exciting new generation of artists and DJs that are mashing clubs up across the globe with their sound of hard edge drum and bass. Having released further tunes on Hardware and one on Industry, (‘Vacuum’ with EBK), including ‘Innocence’ on the ‘3 The Hardway EP’ as well as a remix of Chase and Status’ ‘ Barbarians’ for their ‘Ten Tonne’ EP, Prolix then hooked up with DJ Hype and Pascal of seminal label Tru Playaz. Deciding that they liked what they heard, but that it wouldn’t quite fit into what their other labels were putting out, they decided to form a label with the intention of pushing this sound. Thus ‘Ganja Tek’ was born. The first release ‘Exile’ was an instant hit. Getting smashed all over the worlds dancefloors and boosted by airtime on Radio1 by Mary-Anne Hobbes and Bailey, ‘Exile and ‘Chokehold’, ensured Prolix launched Ganja Tek into the consciousness of the DnB community. Following the success of this first single it was followed up by tech steppers ‘Freefall’ and ‘Icon’, then ‘Took my Love’ and ‘Ice cold’. Most recently, the live break-based ‘Sonorous’ and smasher ‘The Fury’ were released on promo, with DJ support from Klute, Dom and Gridlok to name a few.

Part of the pioneering online music community, Prolix became friends with Noisia and travelled to Holland in 2004 to write tunes which came out on Mayhem’s Shadow Law Recordings and Stakka’s label, Cargo. Prolix began to hone his studio skills and a collaboration with Nocturnal, ‘Crater’, was quickly snapped up by Renegade Hardware. Hearing this track, Chase & Status asked Prolix to remix ‘Barbarian’ for their ‘Ten Tonne’ EP; an event which would lead to an introduction to DJ Hype and Pascal.

Quickly touted as one of ATM magazine’s ‘Leaders of the New School’, the Playaz camp recognised the unique talent in the twisted beats and mangled basslines emanating from Prolix’ studio and they wasted no time in signing him exclusively, creating a new sub-label called ‘Ganja Tek’ for this purpose. Dark and heavy, the first release ‘Exile’ b/w ‘Chokehold’ was played out by Bailey and BBC Radio 1’s Mary Anne Hobbs; subsequent releases have been bashing the living daylights out of hordes of ravers across the globe in the sets of some of the scene’s most respected DJs.

PROLIX makes his FIRST SEATTLE APPEARANCE this Tuesday (4.26) @ The Baltic Room.

Babylon System, the California based dubstep outfit, consists of the killer combo of veteran dj/producers: ROOMMATE and NO THING. Since 2006 the two have been setting the world on fire with their aggressive, gangster and reggae infused dancefloor sound. Their releases are all anxiously awaited and their dubs are spun by every big dj in the scene. Tunes like “Examination of Time”, “Loaded”, “Get on up”, and “Hyphy” were instant anthems, selling out from all world wide record shops, with heavy support from giants like; N-type, Plastician, Bassnectar, Noah D, Emalkay, and Skream. Live, they get the party rowdy with quick mixes, diverse track selection, top shelf dubs, and their contagious positive energy.
